Also, the setting is industrial and shows thedevelopment.The Red Room is about a macrocosm who goes to a house and in particular aroom which is seen to have ghosts in it and, therefore, no one goes inthat room. However, this man goes in to surface there is no existence ofa ghost. We find out that no ghost is present in the room and therenever has been and its on the nose that fear has overcome the person.The Cone is about a man and woman who ar having an affair. Tensionis created as the man and woman who are having an affair are not surewhether the womans husband has found out about what is personnel casualty on. Atthe end the womans husband kills the other man and then afterwardthrowing him off a bridge on top of the hot, melting put right at thebottom, he realises he has done something terribly wrong. In line of businessThe Superstit... ...nd creates more emphasis, whereas if it was daytime peoplewouldnt be as scared, although it may run the readers ascreating tension. Feelings of characters creates tension in allstories, as it puts us in the place of the character and thedescription makes us feel, how the character is feeling. This createstension and alike maintains it, as we dont know what will happen next. resource such as metaphors, similes and personification maintains thetension during the stories. It makes us create a flamboyant picture,of what is going on. Sentence structure also gives us a sense oftension as the build up of sentences tells us an crucial part iscoming up, which creates anticipation for the readers.The work of H.G. Wells and Thomas Hardy has been successful and theway in which all three pre 1914 stories create tension and the way itis maintained.
