The Development of a Criminal Mind In todays society, one will find that there are numerous different factors that go into the development of a criminal mind, and it is impossible to single out one particular cause of criminal behavior. Criminal behavior oft stems from both biological and milieual factors. In many cases criminals share similar physical traits which the general population do not unremarkably shake up. For example criminals have small brains than properly adjusted individuals. However biological reasons cannot solely be the cause of criminal behavior. Therefore, one must look to other sources as to how a criminal mind is developed. Social and environmental factors also are at fault for developing a person to the point at which they are overtake to committing a criminal act. Often, someone who has committed a violent crime shows evidence of a poorly developed childhood, or the unsuitable current conditions in which the subject lives. In addition if one studie s victimology which is the role that the victim plays in the crime, it is apparent that there are many different causes for criminal behavior. Through the interrogative sentence of biological factors, in addition to the social and environmental factors which make up a criminal mind, one can conclude that a criminal oft is born with traits common to those of criminals, it is the environment that exist close to them that brings out the criminal within them to commit indecent acts of crime. It is a fact that criminals have a smaller brains than law abiding citizens. However, despite this information, scientists have no basis to travel along to any conclusions with this data. Therefore, one must consider other possible factors that may create a criminal mind, to come to a reasonable decision as to how one is developed. It is prove... ...lity that the victim may actually be partly to blame for the crime that was committed against them. Therefore it is often the environment that the criminal lives in, and the people that around them that influence them into committing a criminal act. Modernism And Cinderella :: essays research papers

Research Writing     Though there are many pouf tales that have been created through the years, Cinderella is into our subconscious by stimulating the part of us that sympathizes with the mistreatment of Cinderella. Others say that the theme of a down-and-out poor girl rising up to become rich and happy appeals to any normal person. This theme is the common bond between all the stories. Recently, however, modern versions of the tale have surfaced in an move to relate to modern audiences. In the textbook Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum the editors decide to take out a chapter entitled Fairy Tales A Closer Look at Cinderella. This chapter includes the stories, The politically Correct Cinderella, A feminist View, and Americas Cinderella. The changes were made because the content was outdated and not "true" Cinderella stories. In the politically clear up version, the author makes a satire of todays obsession with correct terminology. Every detail is explained so that no one is offended and pretty much makes a mockery of the story. The Politically Correct Cinderella is merely a satire on the left leaning views that our nation has been taking over the past decade. Excluding this version from the main stories was a good move by the editors because the politically correct issues that were so important years ago are losing steam today.     The editors of the textbook also ousted the feminist oriented version. This feminist criticism was totally unnecessary because there were two of them. Having Pretty Woman A Modern Cinderella as well as a constituent on the feminist voice is totally redundant and unnecessary. Both segments give the reader what they need to know about femininity and its imp bear on literature. Karol Kelly in her Pretty Woman piece compares the Perrault version with the Pretty Woman story. She explains the changes that have occurred because of the womens movement especially the impact on info rmation. We now have a pot more information that has led to societal changes. The feminist criticism that was omitted hit on several feminine issues in the actual variations of the Cinderella story. "The slipper, the central icon in the story, is a symbol of sexual bondage and imprisonment in a stereotype."The author then explains how this small slipper idea originates from the ancient Chinese act of foot-binding eventually leading to the mutilation of their foot. She hits on many other feminine aspects in the Cinderella stories.

Making the Cut :: Women Gender Issues Essays

Making the CutIn response to the failure of the International Bill of Gender Rights to pass congress in the fall of 2010, I evoke a film that challenges society to examine the controversies surrounding gender identity construction and transgender the great unwashed (Phyllis Randolph Frye, Esq., 1.) My film, Making the Cut, is based loosely on the true fib of Johns Hopkins Hospital case study Joan/John, and chronicles the life of athlete Carla/Carlos Garcia (Diamond, 1). The film uses the example of sport as an indication that society is not yet ready to fully accept transgender individuals into its community. The film begins shortly after the protagonist Carla/Carlos has been born. The doctors immediately realize that the child has been born with a micropenis and determine, as is done to approximately cytosine to 200 US children annually, that the child should undergo sex-selection surgery and be raised as a girl (Diamond, 1). The doctors attempt to explain this to the babys moth er, but as she exclusively speaks Spanish their words are lost on her. Not being able to afford prenatal care, the mother has had no expectations for the sex of her child and rejoices when the doctors bugger off her a baby girl, whom she names Carla. Carla grows up in Harlem and throughout her childhood is inclined to participate in activities that society has historically associated with boys sports, building furniture and vie in mock-fighting games. Carla feels more comfortable in the company of boys and often finds she identifies more closely with their lives than those of her female peers. As an athlete, Carla excels at basketball and earns the recognition of her high aim coach and local media as being a basketball sensation. In her senior year, Carla is recruited to play basketball for the University of Connecticut on scholarship. For The Love of Junk Food

E precisebody have an uncontrollable weakness to a certain type of junk food. That desirable lust you have to satisfy right then and there. Being able to binge once you see a platter or buffet table with all in all the junk food in the world, we just dont ilk the idea of eating increments at a time. We as a society like the idea of a quick cheap fix whenever hunger comes over us. Instead of either taking leftovers from last nights dinner, or acquire up extra early before work or school to fix a seemly breakfast, or pack a proper lunch, we kinda go to the local corner store to pick up dickens Twix bars and a sprite to hold us over.We love taking the slow charge out of things. In the article, Is Junk Food Really Cheaper? , the author Mark Bittman targets the difficult topic of how people make excuses that eating healthier is way much expensive than just taking a family of four plus people to a local fast food restaurant. Bittman made his target reference families that are so mewhat busy with extra-curricular things. For Bittman to help his targeted audience he went out to local stores and did price comparisons and he also did surveys on why parents would rather choose a twenty piece nugget from Mc Donalds over a hot healthy home-cooked repast.Bittman, the Brooklyn, New York native, is a NY Times smell editorialist. ( Bittmans Minimalist column was in the dining section of NY Times for over thirteen plus historic period. He holds the title of being the lead columnist for the Times Dining section and also the lead food writer for The Times Magazine. Not only is Bittman a writer but he is also a chef.Since Bittman has had experience with feeding a family of four in the past he can understand why some families would rather eat out than fix a meal, but he still feels that there should non be a n excuse to cook dinner at least once or twice a week. Bittman explains how our society not only make prices an excuse for eating unhealthy but he also explains how we as people say that preparation is too time overwhelming after a long day of work. In this article, Bittman seem to approach the issue with anger because of the many excuses given for not making a proper meal for the family. He threw in facts and opinions of everyday people that deal with these kinds of decisions. Being a chef and a father of two, Bittman understands the importance of prep a healthy meal and sitting it on the table. Bittman stated that the core problem is that cooking is defined as work, and fast food is both a pleasure and a crutch. (Bittman) That prison term alone explains why most parents do not come home and cook for the family. They feel as if its another job. Bittman argued in the article that though it may seem as if buying processed and junk food is cheaper, its really notHe gave an example o f having a family of four and exit to Mc Donalds buying each person a meal. The total of the meal came out to be approximately thirty dollars. If the parents were to go to the local securities industry store and buy a roast and broccoli, the total will only end up being fourteen dollars. Bittman also brings attention to how over the years the inflation price of fresh produce has gone up while for fast-food restaurants it has decreased. This brings more attention towards spending money on unhealthy food.Bittman stated in the article that overconsumption of fast food triggers addiction-like neuroaddictive responses in the brain, making it harder to trigger the release of dopamine. In other words the more fast food we eat, the more we charter to give us pleasure thus the report suggests that the same mechanisms underlie drug addiction and obesity. (Bittman) Bittman poke the audience attention by allowting them have intercourse that eventually their bad habits of taking the easy w ay out will catch up to them and harm them.Putting themselves in grave danger of potentially, lets say, having a stroke or even dead maybe. Its noticeable in the article that Bittman is fed up with the excuses. Bittmans article is very relatable because he is basing it on average households around the world. Bittman wrote this article to target families that relegate the easy way out. Though this article is intended for families, single people, and couples should also take heed to the information given. Eating healthier is how you keep yourself looking and feeling young.Bittmans purpose of this article is to inform everyone that eating take out every night is unhealthy and that there should be no excuse as to why a person cannot come home and cook a meet meal. Bittman encourage families across the nation to challenge themselves into cooking more than usual. Bittman wan this readers to understand that cooking once a week is better than not cooking at all, he also want them to see t hat cooking can be enjoyable. He doesnt want his readers to think that cooking is a hassle and a burden to get accomplished.Mark Bittmans article, Is Junk Food Really Cheaper, made such a bold entre and informative ending that it came and conquered the message. Bittman put enough facts into this article that it should definitely make a person think twice about feeding their family take-out food two nights in a row. The details of the articles flowed with bold points along with opinions from Bittman and others. It was like Bittman came to the podium and laid it all on the table. Bittman gave several examples on how eating out is more expensive than cooking a meal throughout this article.Since Bittman is a family man he knew what components to insert in this article to grasp the attention of his targeted audience. This article was uncoiled forward and to the point. Though Bittman went in about the topic from the very beginning he never lost his focus on what he was coming to execute . If Bittmans article, Is Junk Food Really Cheap, can grasp hold of my attention as a college student he can very well grasp the attention of a parent that wants to keep their family live and healthy.

The Philippine Educational System

Two major subsystems formal and non-formal. The Filipino gentilityal system is composed of two major subsystems the formal and the non-formal. The formal subsystem consists of sequential academic schooling at three levels. The first two levels are referred to as the basic education level, consisting of six eld of primary or elementary education and iv years of high school or secondary education. Basic education is intended to provide functional, scientific and social literacy. The Philippine government, through its public schools and the voucher system, provides free education for children up to the secondary level. The post-secondary and tertiary levels include one to three years of technical foul/vocational education and degree courses requiring a minimum of four years of college/university education. The three levels of schooling just described focus for the most part on providing academic learn and scholastic competence. Any organized and systematic learning conducted outsid e the formal educational system, whether providing certification or non, is referred to in the Philippines as non-formal education.Non-formal education addresses the needs of those who are not able to participate in the formal subsystem, most of whom may have dropped out of the formal system due to poverty. The organization, item activities, and delivery methods associated with non-formal education are usually designed to meet the expressed needs of distinct clientele, such as primary and high school drop-outs, sluggish adults, and other marginal, dislocated, or disabled groups.Institutionalized in 1977 with the creation of the Office of the Undersecretary for Non-Formal Education under the former Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, the non-formal education program is still provided separately and isolated from the formal system. Efforts are being made to provide clear entry points to higher levels of formal education through a system of equivalency and certification.Howe ver, since the system is not yet fully operational, the non-formal education program appears to mainly concentrate on providing participants with skills necessary for employability and competitiveness in the labor market. The availability of non-formal education, however, is useful in that it expands a window of opportunities for education to more citizens from a variety of demographic characteristics, socio-economic origins, and general interests (DECS, 1994).The non-formal system makes education available to a larger number of Filipinos who cannot participate in formal educational programs. Governments support for and involvement in non-formal education notwithstanding, it must be recognized that the stronger advocacy for and more active implementation of the program in the Philippines could be attributed to private schools, churches, civic organizations, and foundations (Congressional Commission on Education, 1991).Private groups conduct activities ranging from providing basic-le vel skills training to values formation. The delivery vehicles of these activities include seminars and workshops, community assemblies, television and radio programs, correspondence courses, crustal plate visits, self-directed learning modules, and practical work. The curricular designs of the various programs vary from one implementing agency to another, and are tailor-fit to the needs of specific clientele (Gonzales and Pijano, 1997).At present, non-formal education in the Philippines has four main thrusts develop family life skills, including health, nutrition, childcare, household management, and family planning promote vocational skills enhance functional literacy and cultivate livelihood skills. Gonzales and Pijano (1997) note that given the dichotomy of the Philippine educational system, a subsystem of lifelong learning must perforce lean heavily on and draw services from both the formal and informal sub-systems.They add, however, that the topical subsystems still do not r eflect the significant and important informal attributes of lifelong learning. Recent developments in the national educational system. In 1994, the Philippine educational system was restructured in an attempt to rationalize and improve the provision of learning opportunities. The system currently has three subdivisions, namely basic education technical-vocational education and training and higher education.

Case Study on Organizational Conflict Essay

After reading The New Career increase Program that Ruins Careers Case on pages 330332 of the textbook (Fundamentals of organizational communication Knowledge, sensitivity, skills, values (seventh Ed. ) by Shockley-Zalabak, P. S. ) which will henceforth be referred to as the display case study. I also reviewed chapter nine, Organizational Conflict, of the same textbook and puddle identified many types of conflict preferences, strategies, tactical maneuver, and emotions displayed by all of the participants involved in the case study. All of which will be discussed forthcoming, as well as how Jane quarter resolve this conflict. This case study displayed three of the five conflict preferences outlined in chapter nine to include avoidance, disputation, and collaboration (Shockley-Zalabak, 2009, pg 303, 306-308. ) Both Jill and Roger provided a good example of avoidance when they decided to remove themselves from contention. They also collaborated to make it known that they are not yet ready for the new tasking. Both Denise and joke demonstrated competition preferences while presenting their cases to be in charge of the new program by citing experiences and accomplishments. behind also pointed out Denises avoidance issues by stating, You (Denise) just wint confront things openly (Shockley-Zalabak, 2009, pg 331). Throughout this case study, one could make out all four conflict strategies and tactics (escalation, avoidance, maintenance, and reduction) that were displayed. Right in the beginning, jakes escalates the conflict by openly declaring his desire for the program lead position. Denise demonstrates avoidance tactics by trying to shut down the topic, shifting the decision butt to Jane, and reminding others that she is the senior member of this team (Shockley-Zalabak, 2009, pg 331). Jane tried to adopt the tactic of maintenance when she encouraged all parties to voice their opinions. However, Jane was ultimately forced to use reduction tactics as the me eting became too hot tempered by calling an end to the meeting, addressing the two primary aggressors independently, and reconvening the meeting the next day. The three main participants (Jane, Denise, and John) of this case study displayed a varying degree both cognitive and behavioral emotions that contributed to the outcome of each stage in this conflict. Denises opening words conveys her cognitive emotions. These emotions are compounded by Johns own cognitive emotions that quickly turn into a behavioral emotional response demonstrated by his outburst towards the end that was directed at Denise. Janes cognitive emotions came out when she responded to Denise avoidance of Johns outburst and claim for the position by insist for Denise to state her position of the lead role. Each of the three participants feeding off and escalating the conflict until Jane had to end the meeting. This gave Jane some time to evaluate and determine who is best gibe for the lead position. After this conf lict, Jane has to be careful to find a mutually agreeable solution to who will have the lead position or evanesce the risk creating a hostile working environment or even losing a valuable employee. Both Denise and John have a proven undercut record and expertise that demonstrates that they both could excel in the position. However, both displayed a lack of maturity and poise needed for a project of such magnitude. Therefore, I believe that Jane should initially take lead and have both Denise and John write a proposal on the ways to improve the Career Development Program. Then compare and analyze each proposal. Afterwards, combined the best ideas of each proposal to form a comprise between them. Then assign Denise and John as Co-leads for the new Career Development Program. By forcing them to work together the program get the benefit from both well established experts and both Denise and John get the credit and acknowledgment they desire. Reference Shockley-Zalabak, P. S. (2009). Fu ndamentals of organizational communication Knowledge, sensitivity, skills, values (seventh Ed. ).

If u forget me †Pablo Neruda Essay

If you go away me is one of the most famous songs by Pablo Neruda. Despite it was pen around a century ago, the poem is still very popular nowadays. As retire is a never ending topic, If you forget me with the main themes of fervid love and sacrifaction has become a living moral for many people. The sentimental sonnet is the confession of a man to his lover, saying how more than he loves her and uncoerced to sacrifice for her. The poem opens with a very short stanza of two lines. The use of punctuation immediately creates a dearing atmosphere and brings the audience closer to the speaker.A run of evocative objects follows in the second stanza. Silver moon, red branch, slow autumn bring up a sense of peace and calm. preempt, impalpable ash, wrinkle log evoke something passionate and strong, yet soft and tender. All of them remind the speaker of his love, all of them just to show how much he loves her As if everything that exists/ Aromas, light, metal/ Were little boats/ That sail/ Toward those isles of yours that wait for me. Pablo uses metaphor to describe his lover. She is referred to as isles that are waiting for him.He hopes that she loves him just as he does and willing forever and a day be thither for him. Describing the speakers feelings as little boats that are floating toward her isles, Pabblo has created a beautiful and unique imagery. The rhyme of the poem suddenly changes at the number 1 of the third stanza, creates a swift in tone of the speaker. If is repeated at the beginning of the next three stanzas, followed by presuppositions nigh his girlfriend not loving him anymore, then his reaction will be definitive. If she stops loving him, he will do the same.If she forgets him, he will forget her first. If she leaves him, he will has left already. It might sound apathetic at first, but decoding the use of metaphor in the sixth stanza reveils how much his love is for her, underlying within his bitter tone. He himself is described as a tree . In the heart are his roots. All the love will go there and he is living from it and because of it. Without this love he wouldnt be himself. The last metaphor is that he is describing other girls, potential girlfriends, as another land.He will seek there if his present girlfriend will forget him. this is significant because the hardest thing to do is to let the person you love go and face the truth. The speaker, hopeful himself to move on, has shown that his love for her is stronger than any spoken words. The last stanza is probably the most important one, where his deepfelt sentiment is shown clearest. Very short lines are put at the beginning of the stanza. Punctuation once again has immediate impacts on the tone and mood.Despite his lovers betrayal, at any moment if she changes her mind, he will always be willing to take her back again, as if they have never been detached. Child Trafficking Essay

A child is a young human being who is not yet an adult. It also defines trafficking as an act of buy and selling things illeg all toldy. So, child trafficking is an inhuman act where children are being used unjustly as objects of business transaction. Boys and girls are involved tho girls are for the most part involved as victims. They are dartn from their parents by the trafficker who with deceitful words promises the girls parents heaven and earth for event that she will s give notice them to school or that she has a business in abroad like a saloon where the girls pot work for few months and bring in theirs.Parents who are living in the villages are the ones they use to go to, because most of them are unable to afford both material and financial needs of all their children. Such parents have no alternative than giving out their childchildren who maybe in their teens to the lady who pretended to be good. Despite all these government can still work on this heavily by the foll owing Firstly, government should declare free education in every school that is the school own by the government maybe to the secondary school level. By so doing, parents will not have the excuse of giving out their children to someone else to take care of them.Secondly, government should see to duly paying of workers salaries at the end of each month and not leaving them empty handed at the end of the month because they need money to solve the problems facing them in the family and also to prevent them from exposing their children to those heartless human beings that use children illegally to make money. The last but not the least is that the parliamentary arm of government should sit together with the support of the president, make laws for children against abuse and intimidation. Also the judiciary arm should be hard-and-fast in punishing anybody found exhibiting the act of child trafficking

Cross cultural relations with film analysis

The movie Boyz in the Hood deals with issues of racism and cultural stereotyping. It also deals with issues of individualised identification and ambition and the issue of equality in opportunity, regarding schools, money, jobs, and personal safety. The characters in Boyz in the Hood repre direct a diverse group of young African Americans who must find their way through a world of violence, poverty, gangs, drugs, and broken families.Throughout the movie, the audience is reminded that many of the problems facing the movies main characters argon not of their choosing or making but are issues and problems which they start been made to deal with simply because of the circumstances of their birth, their skin color, and their socio-economic standing in society. Early on in the film, the audience is sufficient to see Tre, Ricky, and Darin (Doughboy) as fairly typical kids who want to play football and enjoy being with one another. But Tre has already seen his house broken into, the three f riends micturate passed by crime scenes and an impoverished neighborhood, There doesnt seem to be anywhere they can go to just be regular boys. Instead, they are made to be a part of crime and affirming from a very early age. The part of the movie that isnt actually shown, but the audience can imagine as a contrats is neighborhoods were kids can play and have parks and baseball games and not worry about gunfire or natural law or gangs or drugs. This flock which is not in the film, of a normal life, is the opposite of what the characters in the film have to deal with and the only difference is their racial origin, being African American. The characters in the movie as they get older seem to want to be a part of this other world, the world of whites and even though they remain straightforward to their own cultural identities and participate in the hood culture, each of the characters seems to either want or is actively looking for a way out of the hood. Doughboy is sent to prison and looks to be the one who is most likely to become a stumper. Still, due to the early scene in the movie where he is beaten up by an older kid who takes Rickys football, the audience knows that Doughboy had to get tough in order to survive in the hood. It is almost as though his own word meaning of being a thug in the hood helps protect his brother, Ricky, and Trey from the violence around them in the hood. Later in the story, Doughboys fatherly personality pull up stakes start the chain of conflict that results in his brothers death and eventually his own.But until that crises happens, Doughboy is like the father of the other two friends and the audience understands that despite his rough exterior he is really a compassionate person who sees a lot of potential in his brother and wants good matters to happen for his friends and family. Because the characters in Boyz in the Hood, the main ones, are good people, the tragedies that happen to them are viewed as not being of their making. Tre is stopped by an African American police officer who shoves his gun in his case and threatens to kill him simply because he, the police officer, does not like African Americans.Even though this is a short scene, it is a very important scene. It shows how an African American (the police officer) can be so alienated from their own race, and so hateful toward them that they actually become a part of the oppressive system which causes African Americans to suffer in poverty and be thought of as criminals and dangers to society. In the long run, Tre cannot bring himself to become an avenger for Rickys murder. This is a demonstration that not all African Americans are alike, they are not prone to violence or revenge or gangs or shooting their enemies.Tre decides his life is more important than revenge. When he does so, he is both embracing his culture and refusing the more negative aspects of it. He is an African American who wants to improve his life and his family and his ne ighborhood and not become a thug like Doughboy even if he understands the reasons for Doughboys actions. In each case, with the main characters of Boyz in the Hood their actions and options seem to be somehow influenced by the white world that they neer really see.they aspire to become a part of that society and make good of their lives. They long for another life, but their life is filled with gunfire, helicopters, thugs, prostitutes, drugs, and violence. The reason they have been placed in such terrible circumstances are based in racism. The backdrop to the story is that white money-makers want to bring the property set in the Hood down as low as possible so they can but cheap real-estate whites sell guns and liquor and drugs to the people in the Hood, but they would never set foot in the place themselves. There is no real sense of justice in Boyz in the Hood the only thing which comes close is when Doughboy does kill the gang-bangers who killed Ricky. But even this is sad becaus e it is not true justice but vigilantism and everyone knows Doughboy will be killed himself, eventually. The message is no-one in official expertness care bout what happens to the people in the hood. In order to survive, they must often lower themselves, despite their best efforts, to the level of stereotype which has been used against them in a racially motivated way in the first place.

A study of gender inequality in different child custody cases Essay

Gender inequality in baby grasp greetships has been happening since custody hearings were created. Indeed, typical statutory provisions at least implicitly gain ground judicial brasss to understand past pargonntal participation. More everyplace, evidence that appeals continue to favor female p bents in custody disputes suggests that the pre-divorce caretaking function is valued. (Elizabeth S. Scott) non all is this seen and documented to be the same for many res publicas it laughingstock die even worse for mild towns and municipals as their rulings have a higher chance to be diagonaled and go unpunished and undocumented. speckle thither are waivers to lose court fees waived, many times the court rejects these fee waivers resulting in capacious cost for father. If the father wants to claim custody of his nipper, some places may make the father file a supplication for adoption (even if he is the biological father), which cost money to file. Fees for this could range from $20 to $200 something a try father with legal fees could usually non easily pay. With all these legal fees the father go forth as well as have to pay for any attorney fees and for the attorney themselves. There have been many describe cases of captures who send word not back off their chelaren, organism awarded custody for supposedly other primers bit the father who could apply the child is writing off as unfit. For example, there have been several cases where homeless mothers were award upright custody of their children, small-arm the father had a stable living locating. Not only living situation wise, but women who dont have a stable source of income are a lot not seen as a business in the eyes of the court. It operates under the guidance that women put forward find out to a greater extent establishment activity embolden (such as welfare) for their children lots resulting in poor treatment of children due to im proper aliment and checkup care. All of this is taking place due to courts going for what they feel would be the kayoedmatch interest of the child, sort of than the main negatives and benefits for all(prenominal) parent. More often than not, much care is done when a parent informs the court they want to move proscribed of area with the child. This usually brings rough a full revue into two parents history, so to decide the right choice and not send a child out of separate with an unfit parent. Operating on this backing is wrong, and this concept should be applied to every family court case regardless of circumstances or not. However, if a father was awarded custody, and wanted to move out of state to arise fresh again or maybe pursue love in another arethen more often than not the court would deny the father the ability to move out of state. Where I practice, a parent wishing to move with their child out of state has to pass a two-part test. contribution hotshot re turn the court a legitimate reason to move. Part Two show the court that the move is in the best interests of the child. (Nancy Shannon) More often than not courts find a task with move the child out of the mothers state, due to incorrect thinking that all mothers are the best fit to parent their children or they need to have the ability to be in conform to with their children. On top of the diversity and figure out required approximately fathers need to do in revision to get custody of their child if they fail the results could end up being crippling and life ruining. If a father is made to pay child support, right out of the court he is already in debt. Not only are the legal fees now imposed, but he now has to pay an redundant periodic fee sometimes even surpassing the cost of their monthly rent. This leads a lot of child support payers to end up not being able to pay resulting in their arrest. What makes the entire situation worse is that once in jug their fees do not stop. The debts continue to accrue and once they get out, it could plow a vicious cycle of not being able to pay, being arrested, and then being released. hitherto somehow this is not the entire story of it. If you get hurt or have a medical injury making you unable to work, your payments still do not stop. You have to make a implore to the hear with proper documentation (which could be costly to print out depending on state medical information laws) and even then a judge may decide your injury is not drain enough. This one event in a persons life could result in the rest of their life being ruined. All I was saying was, Give me an opportunity instead of throwing me in jail because that just puts me just behind in child support, Ferebee says. Let me find work so I can earn money. This year, Ferebee was headed to jail a fifth time for failure to pay child support. (Tina Griego) This could figure your life into a debtors prison where there is no hope for escape, and once the pr ocess has started each day makes recovery more and more improbable. There should be more options available to the father that cannot pay such as working the payment off in community ser guilt or being coerce to an assigned line of business for a certain amount of payment until the balance is resolved. This not only mean fewer people in the jails for non-violent crimes but a better chance at literally pay the debt. Unfortunately, the standard today is to just increase the debt hoping that the person could eventually afford it.One of the most stimulate arguments against sexual practice prepossess in court would have to be that because women usually take care of the children more often, they should be the primary caretaker. Several well-known judges had been surveyed about this, and many have told they feel this is not bias. Most judges are not getting a direct view of the household. That is wherefore each case needs to be verified on a person-to-person basis, rather than a sexual urge basis (i.e. look at BOTH the mother and father for the best living situation). Her name holds that mother preference is not a sexual activity diagonal opinion if the mother was the primary caretaker of the childs past. She writes that bias is often seen because fathers are often given more credit than mothers for doing what is expected of mothers, to punish mothers more than fathers for extramarital affairs, and to think that a mothers investment in her career is stingy eyepatch a fathers is the act of a responsible provider (Lindsay R. Estep) This quotation does appreciation for verbalise about the current legal system regarding gender. The court official who spoke in that iterate illuminate demonstrates (albeit with a bit of truth in some parts) gender bias, and fails to recognize it. There are as well a few things that need to be addressed regarding the quote. When the official speaks about the mother being the primary caretaker, her assumptions are wrong . If a mother was a primary caretaker of the child (i.e. father works while the mother stays at home) that does not give her any more parental rights than the father and vice versa. One of the reasons a divorce could be happening is due to the mothers give way of the child while the father was away. Going with the current logic of the court official, the neglectful mother would be given the child, due to previous caretaking. The issue is that is not just an isolated worry, many places all over experience this issue, and its met with no resistance. The correct part of the quote is true, a mother can work while the father stays at home and vice versa. If this was the case she would not, and should not be penalized. The problem with this all is nothing is being done. Even though the mass public outrage, and people stand up against bias, places like the exacting courtyard fail to do anything to prevent further discrimination. No case so clearly prohibits consideration of sex in cust ody cases. It should be noted, however, that there was a strength gender issue in Palmore that received no attention from the Supreme court. It appears that Linda began cohabiting with Clarence before they were married. (Katherine Bartlett) This case Is well known because it enforced and helped prove the clear gender bias of sex without marriage regardless of if the bias was on the female Nothing more seems to have been made of this factor, every by the trial court or on review, but some courts have since noticed that mothers who cohabit outside of marriage, tend to be penalized in ways fathers who cohabit outside of marriage are not. (Katherine Bartlett) While women face the same gender bias in some ways, in the ways people tend to care about (who gets the child, who pays fees, etc.) is where men get overlooked in quality. This quote is important because if its known and documented of a clear gender bias, why hasnt the Supreme Court stepped in and introduced better formula and g uidelines to prevent further bias? The problem is old legislation, and the refusal to make a change. A currently former Supreme Court judge Antonin Scalia was quoted as saying the constitution does not dis-allow gender bias. While not true, a Supreme Court judge, who supposedly should be speaking for the constitution, should not help spread and promote miss-information. On top of that, he was never corrected or reprimanded. The only consequence of that action was bad press. This quote not only helps smaller local courts continue their bias but miss-informs them that they are acting legally. divulge legislation and better education for judges need to be passed before anything can be done. And while there are many arguments that women also face these problems (and while that may be true) the problem its usually the men. Women are given more chances and exceptions than the men. Several document court cases have shown that on just women are given more chances to earn money and pay it, should they be ordered to pay child support. This could either be the judge informing them of state opportunities like welfare and social security, unlike the men who usually are faced with arrest threats or an actual arrest. Another idea in the system is that the reason they are in family court is often due to the father being unfit in the graduation place (I.e Domestic violence, threats, abuse). This is an obvious oversight into a small population of the people. More often than not its just a case of a family not working well together, and no actual abuse or crimes have taken place. On top of that, when it comes to dishing out child support, the mother pass on likely have the advantage also awarded more money In spring 1992, about half (6.2 million) of the 11.5 million custodial parents were awarded child support award rates were higher for mothers than for fathers (56 percent compared with 41 percent) (U.S. surgical incision of Commerce)Overall, when it comes to dealing with t he family courts, men are less likely to win custody of their own children. Those who have a chance at it, are often met with extreme legal fees more so than the mother. Women are often seen as a childs protector so in the eyes of the court they are usually seen as the fit parent right from the start. It has also been noted that mens job status and living situation is looked into more than the womens. This is due to the assumption that women get more government aid to assist them than men this not being true but is still a gross misconception. diversity in the courts has been taking place ever since they have been around. The problem isnt that they refuse to realise it, the problem is its acknowledged and yet nothing is done about it today.Works CitedElizabeth S. Scott. Perceived Gender Bias and Court Awarded Custodial Guardianship April 27, 2011Katherine Bartlett. Comparing race and sex discrimination in custody cases Duke Law EDUA study of gender inequality in different child custody cases EssayGender inequality in child custody cases has been happening since custody hearings were created. Today, fathers are less likely to win custody of their children resulting in court and legal fees that the mothers do not have to pay. Regardless of the parents living situation or income, if the mother is physically healthy enough to raise the child, she has a major advantage. On top of everything else, men are more likely to owe increasing child support, even if they are hurt or arrested for non-payment. Its inequality like this that has plagued the family courts forever, giving them a biased and bad name.Going back to times such as the 1970s, it is well noted that even then gender inequality was quite rampant. Not only is it now well-known and admitted, but many feel with the removal of tender years law (feeling that women raised the children, this should be primary caregiver) that inequality was taken care of this obviously not being the case. Indeed, typical statutory provisions at least implicitly encourage courts to consider past parental participation. Moreover, evidence that courts continue to favor mothers in custody disputes suggests that the pre-divorce caretaking function is valued. (Elizabeth S. Scott) Not only is this seen and documented to be the same for many states it can get even worse for small towns and municipals as their rulings have a higher chance to be biased and go unpunished and undocumented. While there are waivers to get court fees waived, ma ny times the court rejects these fee waivers resulting in immense costs for father. If the father wants to claim custody of his child, some places may make the father file a petition for adoption (even if he is the biological father), which cost money to file. Fees for this could range from $20 to $200 something a struggling father with legal fees could usually not easily pay. With all these legal fees the father will also have to pay for any attorney fees and for the attorney themselves. There have been many reported cases of mothers who can not support their children, being awarded custody for supposedly other reasons while the father who could support the child is writing off as unfit. For example, there have been several cases where homeless mothers were award full custody of their children, while the father had a stable living situation. Not only living situation wise, but women who dont have a stable source of income are often not seen as a problem in the eyes of the court. It operates under the guidance that women can get more government aid (such as welfare) for their children often resulting in poor treatment of children due to improper nutrition and medical care. All of this is taking place due to courts going for what they feel would be the best interest of the child, rather than the main negatives and benefits for each parent. More often than not, more care is done when a parent informs the court they want to move out of state with the child. This usually brings about a full inspection into both parents history, so to decide the right choice and not send a child out of state with an unfit parent. Operating on this backing is wrong, and this concept should be applied to every family court case regardless of circumstances or not. However, if a father was awarded custody, and wanted to move out of state to start fresh again or maybe pursue love in another arethen more often than not the court would deny the father the ability to move out of state. Wher e I practice, a parent wishing to move with their child out of state has to pass a two-part test. Part One show the court a legitimate reason to move. Part Two show the court that the move is in the best interests of the child. (Nancy Shannon) More often than not courts find a problem with moving the child out of the mothers state, due to incorrect thinking that all mothers are the best fit to parent their children or they need to have the ability to be in contact with their children. On top of the discrimination and work required most fathers need to do in order to get custody of their child if they fail the results could end up being crippling and life ruining. If a father is made to pay child support, right out of the court he is already in debt. Not only are the legal fees now imposed, but he now has to pay an additional monthly fee sometimes even surpassing the cost of their monthly rent. This leads a lot of child support payers to end up not being able to pay resulting in their arrest. What makes the entire situation worse is that once in jail their fees do not stop. The debts continue to accrue and once they get out, it could become a vicious cycle of not being able to pay, being arrested, and then being released. Yet somehow this is not the entire story of it. If you get hurt or have a medical injury making you unable to work, your payments still do not stop. You have to make a petition to the judge with proper documentation (which could be costly to print out depending on state medical information laws) and even then a judge may decide your injury is not debilitating enough. This one event in a persons life could result in the rest of their life being ruined. All I was saying was, Give me an opportunity instead of throwing me in jail because that just puts me further behind in child support, Ferebee says. Let me find work so I can earn money. This year, Ferebee was headed to jail a fifth time for failure to pay child support. (Tina Griego) This could t urn your life into a debtors prison where there is no hope for escape, and once the process has started each day makes recovery more and more improbable. There should be more options available to the father that cannot pay such as working the payment off in community service or being forced to an assigned job for a certain amount of payment until the balance is resolved. This not only means fewer people in the jails for non-violent crimes but a better chance at in truth paying the debt. Unfortunately, the standard today is to just increase the debt hoping that the person could eventually afford it.One of the most compelling arguments against gender bias in court would have to be that because women usually take care of the children more often, they should be the primary caretaker. Several well-known judges had been surveyed about this, and many have told they feel this is not bias. Most judges are not getting a direct view of the household. That is why each case needs to be verified on a person-to-person basis, rather than a gender basis (i.e. look at BOTH the mother and father for the best living situation). Her article holds that mother preference is not a gender biased opinion if the mother was the primary caretaker of the childs past. She writes that bias is often seen because fathers are often given more credit than mothers for doing what is expected of mothers, to penalize mothers more than fathers for extramarital affairs, and to think that a mothers investment in her career is selfish while a fathers is the act of a responsible provider (Lindsay R. Estep) This quote does wonder for speaking about the current legal system regarding gender. The court official who spoke in that quote clearly demonstrates (albeit with a bit of truth in some parts) gender bias, and fails to recognize it. There are also a few things that need to be addressed regarding the quote. When the official speaks about the mother being the primary caretaker, her assumptions are wrong. If a mother was a primary caretaker of the child (i.e. father works while the mother stays at home) that does not give her any more parental rights than the father and vice versa. One of the reasons a divorce could be happening is due to the mothers neglect of the child while the father was away. Going with the current logic of the court official, the neglectful mother would be given the child, due to previous caretaking. The issue is that is not just an isolated problem, many places all over experience this issue, and its met with no resistance. The correct part of the quote is true, a mother can work while the father stays at home and vice versa. If this was the case she would not, and should not be penalized. The problem with this all is nothing is being done. Even though the mass public outrage, and people standing up against bias, places like the Supreme Court fail to do anything to prevent further discrimination. No case so clearly prohibits consideration of sex in custody case s. It should be noted, however, that there was a potential gender issue in Palmore that received no attention from the Supreme Court. It appears that Linda began cohabiting with Clarence before they were married. (Katherine Bartlett) This case Is well known because it enforced and helped prove the clear gender bias of sex without marriage regardless of if the bias was on the female Nothing more seems to have been made of this factor, either by the trial court or on review, but some courts have since noticed that mothers who cohabit outside of marriage, tend to be penalized in ways fathers who cohabit outside of marriage are not. (Katherine Bartlett) While women face the same gender bias in some ways, in the ways people tend to care about (who gets the child, who pays fees, etc.) is where men get overlooked in quality. This quote is important because if its known and documented of a clear gender bias, why hasnt the Supreme Court stepped in and introduced better legislation and guidel ines to prevent further bias? The problem is old legislation, and the refusal to make a change. A currently former Supreme Court judge Antonin Scalia was quoted as saying the constitution does not dis-allow gender bias. While not true, a Supreme Court judge, who supposedly should be speaking for the constitution, should not help spread and promote miss-information. On top of that, he was never corrected or reprimanded. The only consequence of that action was bad press. This quote not only helps smaller local courts continue their bias but miss-informs them that they are acting legally. Better legislation and better education for judges need to be passed before anything can be done. And while there are many arguments that women also face these problems (and while that may be true) the problem its usually the men. Women are given more chances and exceptions than the men. Several document court cases have shown that on average women are given more chances to earn money and pay it, shoul d they be ordered to pay child support. This could either be the judge informing them of state opportunities like welfare and social security, unlike the men who usually are faced with arrest threats or an actual arrest. Another idea in the system is that the reason they are in family court is often due to the father being unfit in the first place (I.e Domestic violence, threats, abuse). This is an obvious oversight into a small population of the people. More often than not its just a case of a family not working well together, and no actual abuse or crimes have taken place. Globalization and Cultural Homogenization Essay

The quick learning of economic globalisation and heathen globalisation enhances heathen transaction between unlike countries. Even though in this process culture between various countries still has its declare characteristic on the whole, the heathenish homogenization has been presented in social life, especially in the media industry. This essay will discuss the definition of globalization and cultural homogenization, and the best-selling(predicate)ity of Hollywood movies in China, the phenomenon of convergence of TV programmers between different countries and Nipponese anime elements in video games around the gentleman will be given as examples to demonstrate the homogenization of media culture. stopping point includes many aspects in passels daily life such as the economic, politics, media. According to Appadurai (1990), The severalize problem in the global interactions today is the tension between cultural homogenization and cultural heterogenization. The cultural h omogenization is the process that local cultures are changed or assimilated by the dominant outside culture (OConnor, 2006). globalization has its natural barriers like the differences in languages, geographical factors, religious and ethnics. These differences between countries could undermine the cultural homogenization. Take the governmental system as an example. Today there are different political system in different countries like the socialism in China and the capitalism in western counties like America and Australia. except the influence of globalization for the media cultural homogenization has been widely presented in peoples daily life. downstairs the background of globalization, the media culture makes the meaning of the globalization equal to the cultural homogenization. In the process of economic globalization, neoliberal ideology had spread. Neoliberalism advocates that business dominate the social affairs to make the national and international policies wealthy pers on a new drift and the market can solve social problems by itself (McChesney, 2001).As a consequence, the causation of political constraint on economic activities and global trade barrier has strongly weakened. It is untroubled for the valet famous media firms to expand their markets in different countries to extract profit. For instance, Hollywood occupied most of the worlds media market. It becomes a main medium by which people in different countries to understand American fashions, customs, setting and the way of life (Hoynes & Croteau & Milan, 2011). According to Su (2010), between 1994-2007, China began to import 10 to 20 foreign films every year. Most of them were Hollywood movies. These Hollywood blockbusters caused unprecedented repercussion among the Chinese audience because these blockbusters could fit their aesthetic and entertain need. At the end of 20th century, Hollywood films had occupied 70% of Chinese film market, but the well-nigh 100 films made in domestic jus t share 30% of the film market (Rosen 2002). With the rapid schooling of scientific technology, IMAX and 3D technology has been used in the film industry. The technologies further promote the Americanization in the world film field. The movies like Avatar and Titanic are examples of this. Hollywood movies created visual miracle and achieve extended box-office profits one after another in China, even around the world. In order to have more market share, Chinese film producer withal focus on importing American advanced film technology or the cooperating with the American film making companies. Recently year, China to a fault has its own outstanding films like Tangshan Earthquake, but some Chinese audience felt it likes a Hollywood blockbuster because of American visual effect technology in the film.In the process of economical and cultural globalization, neoliberalism has been widely spread. The Hollywood has seized this opportunity and occupied large scale of world film market. So Americanization is a reflection of media cultural homogenization in the process of globalization. However, the media cultural homogenization not only in the Americanization of the film industry, but also appear in some TV programs. According to McChesney (2001), The rapid development of information technology further accelerates the process of globalization. It is easier for people to get media sources from different countries online for entertainment. From the page design to the musical arrangement of the content and the various functions of scheduling, the designing of many website have a high degree of consistency. People favor to watch high clicking rate programs in Internet. National TV station also promotes to make the popular TV shows in order to improve the audience rating. In the process of TV program making, cultural and art workers copy or clone becomes a safe and efficient way in media. As a consequence, globalization makes media cultural homogenization a general form in media programs. For instance, the most powerful media cultural phenomenon in 2012 is The Voice- a singing competition show began in the Netherlands to choose good singers from the public. Audiences were attracted by its novel and exciting competition mode. It had high click rating in the YouTube and achieved a long success in the world wide media industry.TV stations in different countries like Chine, Australia, and U.S. also hold the same singing competition. The Voice has already become a media brand. Although the influence of this program in different countries are not the same, but the forms them themselves have strong homogeneous performance, the entire process of the programs from the inception of the match to the final results are the same form which are borrowed from the western countries. The globalization also promotes the special(prenominal) media firms became concentrated. In order to reduce risk and improve the profit-making chance, the convergence and consolidation became more frequently (March & Olsen, 1989). In this process, seven media corporations dominated the world media market those are Disney, AOL-Times Warner, Sony, Viacom, Vivendi, and Bertelsmann (McChesney,2001). Some media corporations impute the popular cultural elements in their own production and released in the world media market. This can also lead to the media cultural homogenization. Take Japanese anime as an example.Because of its exciting story and exquisite character, it has large amounts of fans around the world. Sony is one of the seven major(ip) firms in the world media market. It is famous for its video games. According to Sinclair (2006), the releasing of the third generation of PlayStation brought Sony to the first straddle in video game industry. One of the unique features in its video products was the combination of anime features with their own video game product. Anime fans around the world also fund of the animation processing games. That straight off leads to the animate of games from different video game corporations such as the Xbox in Software, the Wii and NDS in Nintendo. In order to satisfy the visual need for the Chinese game player, some Chinese on-line game producers also put anime elements in their games. Globalization leads to the media market dominated by particular corporations. Because of their media products have the same contents, the world media culture also presents the trend of homogenization. In all, cultural miscellanea still exist between different cultures, the concept of globalization could not be totally equal to the cultural homogenization and cultural diversity still exist between different cultures. However in the media industry, globalization can be seen as the equal form as cultural homogenization. By giving clear definitions of the two parts, and use the popularity of Hollywood in China, popular TV programs and Japanese anime elements in video games as examples to show that globalization is equal to media cultural homogenization. The trend of cultural homogenization is unavoidable especially in the media industry in the process of globalization. In the future, the world trade market is in a condition of full of dispute but also chance. All countries should mobilize various resources to develop public cultural, at the same time, people should follow the step of the times closely and understand and learn other countries cultural essences in a rational and correct way.

Many students expand their view of the world during

There was a time when the world we live in was in a somewhat peaceful mode. There was existing discord among countries and there were political and social misunderstandings being determined but overall, there was a semblance of a fragile peace and tolerant understanding of all(prenominal) others problems, race, and gender. That all changed overnight after the regularts of September 11.Overnight, the allowance and fragile peace existing between our arena and those of the nitty-gritty eastward, Europe, and Asia was thrown into a dizzying tailspin. Everything that we thought we knew to the highest degree our middle-eastern neighbors was thrown out the window and they suddenly became an closely persecuted race worldwide. This loss of tolerance and understand towards the Middle Eastern nationals saddens me no end. Perhaps it is because, even though I was born and raised as an Ameri gage, my familys roots are deeply entrenched in the Middle East.I lived eleven years of my life as a citizen of the Middle East. I am one of them. Therefore, I understand the culture and religion even though I am now more influenced by my westernized upbringing. Even though my parents tried hard to instill some of our Old World value into me, it was a struggle for me to identify with the traditions and ways they wanted me to follow. No one else in my social circle had to follow the aforementioned(prenominal) norms as set by their family that I did. Eventually, the western ways won out and I forgot what it was desire to be a Mid Easterner. This is why I believe that the person or schoolfellow who allowing call for a tremendous impact on my life while in college will be someone who is an exchange student or foreign national enrollee from any part of the Middle East. The occasion I believe this is because I have slowly come to realize that the masses from the Middle East have been suffering from prejudice since the events of 9/11. The race has been judged collectively and bran ded by the world as terrorists. All member countries of that eastern block have been judged by the decisions and acts of a few misguided people from their area of the world. It is time for us to stop the prejudice. It is time to stop the war. It is time for us, as the free attractor of the world, to stop, analyze and think about what we are doing to those people. It could be an act of veiled of revenge already on our part. That understanding can start small and trickle down. It can start with me.I would expect that this potential classmate of mine to help me understand where the prejudice comes from. Why do we see them in such distressing light? How do they view us as a nation? I believe that a fellow Middle Easterner student and I will be able to relate and have many things in common. He may not be from the country my parents come from. But, he will at least share the same beliefs and traditions as my parents and maybe, just maybe, I can learn even more from him about my roots an d traditional heritage. Those things and lessons will be fun for me to encounter because I mixed-up out on those things when my family moved to the United States.Since he will be like a teach to me, I also expect to learn other things from him. I expect to learn more about tolerance for others who may not understand from him. He can show me how to deal with the situations he faces everyday. I have been known to have a short attention span so dedication and attempt are not really very strong points in me as a student and person. I am hoping that he will be able to teach me that since Middle Easterners are known for their tolerance and patience in the face of adversity.Aside from those specific things, I know that I will learn a lot in terms of life lessons from him or her simply by observing the person as his or her daily life unfolds. Everyday is a learning experience for everyone, he or she can be my out of class mentor, friend, and ally if need be.
